Two people (at least) in this thread think parents should have children only after they have saved all the funds necessary to raise them, from cradle to adulthood.

Assuming it is desirable for more than about 0.000001% of the population to have offspring, I claimed the idea was idiotic in practice.

Free child care for 6+ months until school, which is the case in many other countries would really help.

The whole notion that people needing financial help from the state have to pay income taxes in the first place is a bit ridiculous.

If you need childcare you shouldn't be having kids in the first place.

Having kids only to leave them in the care of strangers all week is a pretty scumbag move.

If it's a Few hours a week to help them socialise then that's different - and not "needed".

The point I thought they were making was that if you want children you should be able to look after them yourself not rely on the state. if the point was that you should save before having them then I agree with you
