    Musings of the day

    What are your musings?

I reckon self driving cars will completely transform the property market.

At the moment I live as close to the city centre as possible, so that I can do stuff in town and get home, on foot/bike, including having a pint. Also, there is no parking anywhere unless you pay a fortune.

With self driving cars, I could presumably get my car to self-drive and pick me up. Or I could get a taxi without paying more than a couple of quid. And I could be drunk, and still do it.

This means I can buy a property 20 minutes drive away and still enjoy my current standard of living.

I think they will shake things up!

I was thinking about a cure for world povety.

Actually that was a lie. I was wondering if that secretary's breasts have grown since yesterday.

      ^^^^^ WHS

Also, shared-ownership self-driving car pools will cut down parking congestion enormously. So maybe centre-of-town shopping will make a comback.

I remember arguing with someone about this back in the '80s. Admittedly the prospect was more remote then; but this idiot just couldn't get his head round the concept and kept making smug comments along the lines of "You mean taxis?".

He also seemed to think self-driving cars would never be possible because "they couldn't react to a sudden tyre blowout" in good time, as if a suitable sensor couldn't sense the start of a blowout in a millisecond, far faster than a fighter pilot ever could. Some people seem to be just wilfully unimaginative; but then a lot of it is fear of the unknown.

The only thing is there would doubtless be penalties for drunks who puked up in the car!

I can't imagine a tyre blowout being that much of an issue for a fighter pilot?

If you are landing or taking off it can ruin your whole day.

Broadband will mean people working at home making self-driving cars redundant.

And therefore the only houses that anyone will be able to afford will be those without broadband.

The idea of anyone "working" in any meaningful sense in 50 years is as ludicrous as expecting to see lines of farm labourers mowing hay with scythes today (*)

(*) unless they are extras being filmed for another adaptation of a Thomas Hardy novel or something
