It's who buys their property when the "sell up" though, seen it plenty of times around where I live e.g. a nice bungalow set in large gardens on a main road gets sold. Next thing it's being demolished and 4 detatched houses are being built on the plot. There's about 6' of space between them and tiny gardens front and rear with hardly and parking space.

Easy money for the developers as say the bungalow sold for £250k, each detached shoe box might go for the same amount so roughly £0.5m profit.

Large bungalow plots are like gold dust for that reason. Double your money every year if you can rinse and repeat. I know several builders that are super rich doing this, and converting old victorian houses into multi-occupancy flats for immigrants to rent out.

I thought they'd put the brakes on these so-called garden grabs.

In my own case, I'm going to try and get a restrictive covenant prventing anyone from doing this to my property if I ever decide to sell it.

Couldn't bear the thought of all my trees and shrubs and all the hard work I've put in over the years being bulldozed to make space for new houses.

Lots and lots and lots of space for houses in Scotland... much as we talk about the UK having high population density it's rather easily forgotten just how much we're crammed into England.

Are there official figures on pop.density for the home nations separately?
