Since when has the nations wealth been a specific set amount?Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone -
Isn't that what the government already does with privatisation, PFI, outsourcing, etc.? Does it work?Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostRun the public services like a business. The benefits cap has solved the problem that there was no limit, so offensive levels of benefit were paid because it was easier than challenging the claimants. It affected so few existing claimants that despite all the rhetoric it was a good thing freeing up money for other claimants.Originally posted by d000hg View Post
"UNLIMITED benefits" is such a crass piece of propaganda. The benefits cap is a very crude way of trying to control benefits spend, driven by tabloid PR - wanting to reduce very complicated and varied scenarios to a single headline number.Comment

The question should be what is best based on practicalities rather than ideology. The answer to the question is probably private ownership though the lack of competitive dynamics undermines efficiency.Originally posted by darmstadt View PostIsn't that what the government already does with privatisation, PFI, outsourcing, etc.? The reduction in tax benefits after you get to 100K is 45% tax by the back door
Used to be that once I hit the 45% tax bracket I would refuse to do overtime or weekends if asked , with expenses it was just not worth it your take would be less than 40% of the day rate, project teams would then start to look at outsourcing so it sort of backfired one year when one client co decided to do this.
Now I look to take on short term contracts 6 - 9 months and then work hard to get at least the major objectives complete, for the last 2 years I have not renewed a contract , that way I optimize income and get well earned breaks.
You do need to have another source of income to get you by bench time but most contractors I speak to have at least a BTL or two but this could get more difficult in 2017 when Mr Osbourne decides that you can no longer claim mortgages as an expense against your rent income , so if this is you then there are ways around this but you need to act now.Warning unicorn meat may give you hallucinationsComment

And who kills these aspirations? Who creates the poor public services, poor education services, etc.? I suspect its these affluent middle classes who vote for successive right wing governments who it seems there main aim in life is to keep the lower classes downtrodden and create a stable voter base for themselves ensuring that they will never suffer...Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostTypical left wing wail. What do you suggest is done? pay out more benefits to keep them at home? If these people had not had their aspirations killed off by poor public services (education especially) they would be independent of the state. This is my point which you illustrate so well. keep the plebs in poverty and you have your victims . This gives you cart blanche to wail. If housing was plentiful, education top notch, health and social care of the highest quality and a secure environment "these people" would not need the state, nor would they need to be patronised by the affluent middle classes as represented by your ilk.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

Labour want everyone at the same dumbed down level. They've focused on bringing the worst up to a minimum standard while stifling the best kids and not letting them shine. Mind you, they've done that for years, with Bliar and Brown insisting as many as possible get a pointless degree and unrealistic aspirations once they graduate.
