Have you ever considered the difference between a cracker, a wafer and a biscuit?
I'm guessing that a wafer is defined by the physical property of its thickness and that alone.
But a cracker? Is that just a biscuit that is eaten with a savoury accompaniment and a biscuit becomes a biscuit by dint of its properties of sweetness?
