    They did.

Pimp "They really like you, they want to make you an offer but they have a few things to sort out. If I was a betting man I'd say you should get this. Should hear back later in the week".

Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Bizarre though isn't it? Why go to such lengths? Why not just say "You didn't get it mate, sorry"?

You have been contracting for a while now, aren't you? You should know better what agency jargon means.

Because the agent doesn't know if the winner will take the role... And if they don't there is the possibility that they may take on the second choice. And there is a chance that you are that second choice..

That sounds more negative than a meant it to be (sorry)..

              Remember rule 1:

just keep looking until your bum is on a seat in new clientco..

As the others have said, hedging bets. It means you are in the running (2nd or 3rd choice), but often the 1st choice might turn the gig down (got a better offer, didn't like it).

If he flat out said "No, you aren't the one they are looking for..(in a Obi Wan voice)" you would likely not take the role and find another.

So the agents keep the main choices all hanging until the ink is dry on the contract.

                  Simples.

You should assume you aren't going to get it and plough on.

I've just joined the IB Bench today.

Bum off the bench on Tuesday to join Cloudy Contract. Short visit to the park...
I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).

Obviously he was not a betting man...

Did you clarify that with the agent?
