    Social Care tax

Labour should ignore "difficult headlines" and consider extra taxes to cover the rising cost of social care, leadership contender Andy Burnham says.

Mr Burnham says his goal of a National Health and Care service will require a "difficult financial change".

But in a speech in Leeds, he said Labour should not fear a backlash from the "Tory press".

He would create a commission which would also consider replacing tuition fees with a graduate tax system.

Mr Burnham's speech, marking the 70th anniversary of the Attlee Labour government, is seen as an effort to get back on the front foot in the leadership contest.

It also included a scathing criticism of the current Labour Party, which he accused of being "frightened of its own shadow".

The Leigh MP said the anniversary of the 1945 government should be "cause for joyous celebration, but I mark it with a sad realisation that the modern Labour Party could not have created the NHS".

I'm putting my faith in Jeremy Corbyn, at last a true socialist to believe in, in the mould of Michael Foot and Wedgie-Benn. No chance of election, but something to aspire to, I'm sure there's no paparazzi taints on Corbyn yet, but seem to be the only way up at the moment - to be uber squeaky clean.

It will be easier to try and guess which terrorists he hasn't been spotted with yet, but apart from that as squeaky clean as any other terrorist sympathiser
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

I'm all for decent care provision, and it should be National Physical and Mental Health Care Service.

        The question is, who pays?

          Income Tax
          National Insurance
          Physical Care Levy
          Mental Care Duty
          Bad Leg Social Credits
          Sore Bum Community Charge

Labour could go on all day dreaming up taxes, they are fantastic at this role.

Looking forward to reliving Britain under the 1970's with them in charge. 90% tax on the "wealthy" back then. That's you and me to Labour btw, not some Billionaire.

Strikes, blackouts, Soviet style living conditions. Enjoy, idiot voters!

I wouldn't advocate that. A flat rate 30% tax on all earnings would do the trick.

I know digital currency has its big brother issues, but how many tradesman pay the full tax due - rather than cash in hand.

In 1971 the top rate of income tax on earned income was cut to 75%. A surcharge of 15% kept the top rate on investment income at 90%.In 1974 the cut was partly reversed and the top rate on earned income was raised to 83%. With the investment income surcharge this raised the top rate on investment income to 98%, the highest permanent rate since the war.
If you idiots vote for Labour, this is what you will be paying.

You reckon there is less overall tax today than the 1970s?

The problem Comrade, is that the definition of "rich" isn't what you think it is. "rich" will be defined as above median income, which means you will be going from "rich" to "poor".

If you want to be poor, a quicker way is just to set fire to all your money. It saves waiting five years for Labour to do it for you.
