    A:Yes.
Not sure I agree. When I go to live abroad (please let it be soon) I intend to live like the locals do. Its their country and I respect that.

I suppose Mrs BP will not be keen on the idea of going to Saudi though....

Depends on what exactly their culture entails, shirley?

If it is something that is not illegal but is just not that common here then go for it. If it is something that is illegal here then they should be punished the same way anyone else would be.

I'd take a samosa over these meat pies any day. Thank god for Indian migrants.

Arguably, the question should actually have been "Should culture be an acceptable defence in breaking UK laws?"

Of course, the answer then is more than likely "get stuffed, of course not"

Giving up your own culture - which is part of your identity - isn't being respectful if you are doing it just to fit in. A mixture of cultures makes the place more interesting.

Within the context of the original post this seems to be a strange thing to say.

Are you suggesting that if the perp _didn't_ beat his wife and child, "just to fit in", then he would not be respecting British culture?

It would at least, apparently, make it interesting if people from cultures where it was accepted were allowed to beat their wives here!

One thing not touched on is the assertion, including by the judge, that it is indeed their culture to bash wives and kids. Seems a bit racist for her to say that, if you ask me.

                    Accurate though.
