Getting into contracting NEWBIE

Hi All,

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer some advice on getting into contracting. I'm currently ready to start working and I'm seeking a contracting role. I have 3.5 years as a java developer in financial services but I'm struggling to get a job as a contractor. Most of the contracting work seems to go through recruitment agencies who demand more experience.

Would anyone be able to offer any advice as to landing a contract role without recruitment agencies.
