I'm sorry, that argument is simply unacceptable, you should be ashamed. It makes far too much sense for CUK let alone UK politics. -
Sorry. Your point is taken. But I put it in "General," I thought fantasy was permitted here.Originally posted by TykeMerc View PostI'm sorry, that argument is simply unacceptable, you should be ashamed. It makes far too much sense for CUK let alone UK politics.Comment

Countries make up Europe and Countries make up the UK, your point is facile.Originally posted by WordIsBond View PostDid you see Sturgeon is claiming that the EU referendum should have to have a majority in each of the four nations to pass? She doesn't want the English to drag Scotland out of Europe.
I guess the next Scottish referendum should have to have a majority in each Scottish council area to pass, too. Orkney and Shetland don't want the Glaswegians to drag them out of the UK, after all.Comment

I blame those damned separatists for trying to break away. She should be campaigning to stay in the UK then, as independence will guarantee not being in the EUOriginally posted by WordIsBond View PostDid you see Sturgeon is claiming that the EU referendum should have to have a majority in each of the four nations to pass? Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.
No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.Comment

Except the UK joined as a country and the UK has been treated as a single country for rather a long time. It's the UK that is a member of the EU, not the historical countries or counties. Hell we could split to the more ancient kingdoms like Mercia, Wessex, Kent, Northumbria if we followed your country argument another logical stage.Originally posted by Unix View PostCountries make up Europe and Countries make up the UK, your point is facile.
The United States is (viewed externally) a single country but the individual states are far more autonomous than the "countries" in the UK.Comment

Reduce the number of Scottish constituencies in Westminster to zero. This has the additional advantage of eliminating English influence over Scottish issues, which we have had too much of for too long. 308 years too long. We're a conservative people but we have just had enough.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostSo Cameron is going to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600. That seems easy. Reduce the 59 Scottish constituencies to just 9. This also has the advantage of reducing Scottish influence over English-only issues.Comment
