So Cameron is going to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600. That seems easy. Reduce the 59 Scottish constituencies to just 9. This also has the advantage of reducing Scottish influence over English-only issues.

Reduce the number of Scottish constituencies in Westminster to zero. This has the additional advantage of eliminating English influence over Scottish issues, which we have had too much of for too long. 308 years too long. We're a conservative people but we have just had enough.

Except the UK joined as a country and the UK has been treated as a single country for rather a long time. It's the UK that is a member of the EU, not the historical countries or counties. Hell we could split to the more ancient kingdoms like Mercia, Wessex, Kent, Northumbria if we followed your country argument another logical stage.

The United States is (viewed externally) a single country but the individual states are far more autonomous than the "countries" in the UK.
