    - Workers are protected – this is made possible through the European Working Time Directive; the directive includes regulations regarding holidays, working hours, breaks, etc.

    - Low prices of goods – there exists a ‘Single Market’ for all member countries wherein products are low-priced and there are no charges when it comes to custom tax; custom tax is usually charged when goods are transported or sold between states/countries but this is not applied among member countries

    - Removal of customs barriers mean 60 million customs clearance documents per year no longer need to be completed, cutting bureaucracy and reducing costs and delivery times

    - Free movement of labour also enables British people to live and work in Europe. Roughly 1.6 million British citizens live in the EU outside the UK (2010)

    - Easier to use qualifications in different member countries. This makes it easier to work abroad without having to retrain in different national qualifications.

    - 1.5 million young people have completed part of their studies in another member state with the help of the Erasmus programme.

    - The EU have raised the quality of sea water and beeches, by implementing regulations on water standards 'Bathing Water Directive'. 92% of tourist locations now meet minimum water quality standards

    - The EU has reduced the price of making mobile phone calls abroad. In 2007 EU legislation set maximum charges for making and receiving calls. The EU also agreed with 14 mobile phone manufacturers to create standard design for chargers from 2011 in order to make life easier for consumers and reduce wastage

    - Straighten bananas:

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Your Progressive EU project is going well eh? Just so long as the collateral damage doesn't impact you, correct?

On the other hand outside we -
                • Get to make our own Laws. Elect our own politicians. Kind of old fashioned I know.
                • Trade with Europe like Norway and Switzerland and Iceland. All have access to the Single market.
                • Save £billions.
                • Travel freely throughout Europe using the Schengen agreement.

Maybe we'd lose that tuppence saved on the price of international phone calls.

So there's another advantage - decent, hard-working, upright (oo-er missus) Poles displacing the workshy, low intelligence local spongers.

                  ...
The UK decided not to be part of the Schengen agreement while in the EU. Why would the UK join once it's outside?

Funny this - one anti-EU thinks Schengen is great, and the other thinks borders are too open at the moment, and blames a rape and murder on EU freedom of movement.

A united Europe is a fine idea. It is a damn shame that the EU project has been rushed through by the idealists with such little regard for the impact on ordinary people and the practicalities.

Free movement should have been introduced much more slowly as economies began to converge. It was never any problem with the original members but immigration is bound to be a one way street when big disparities exist in income levels and benefits. Competition cannot just affect the "lazy", it affects those who are prepared to work too. One should also ask why our working class should have to compete with those from low wage economies anyway, rather than have a reasonable share in our prosperity.

Then there's the problem countries with high crime like Lithuania, the porous borders that let many in from outside the EU and the low performers like the Roma. They should not be British or other Western European problems, they should have sorted first over a few decades before controls were relaxed. Had we just gone a bit more slowly we could have kept most of the population (not just in the UK) behind the project.

The Eurozone is a perfect example of how ideals and self interest override practical considerations now that a Grexit is looking more and more likely. Do you have to be an economic expert to know that a common currency without proper monitoring and fiscal controls and a degree of economic convergence would never work? Hardly.
