OK and a double bird strike at 37000 Ft is unlikely.

Clearly they lost power. Looks like double engine failure.

          Ah. No. Ted.

Reuters reported earlier the plane was >24 years old.

This seems strange for a European airline. The whole idea of Airbuses (I am told by me bezzie wot works in the industry) is that they are manufactured right on the limits. So whereas with a Boeing, you get a rust spot you can sand it down and spray it. With an Airbus you lose the panel. After 6 years of service they are "disposed of". So they're cheap to buy, cheap to run (lighter) and cheap to dispose of.

Dispose of normally means fook it off to the highest bidder from the east.

So most AB in active service are < 10 years old in European airspace.

Now this is strange. If a plane suddenly lost power and was losing altitude that rapidly you would expect someone from the cockpit to say something to ATC.

I'm now with eek. There is more to this than meets the eye.

The plane is completely disintegrated. Debris spread over more than 2 kilometers

To be fair, if you crash into mountains at 500mph complete disintegration is pretty much a given, no?

A dual in-flight shutdown as a result of manufacturing error in European airspace would be extraordinary event indeed.
