That makes them stall you for ages tapping their pockets trying to find change for a £20, hoping you'll get bored and say "keep the change mate!"

Now I normally tip, but This guy was definitely stalling and all I wanted was £9 change from a £20 then I would have said "Thanks and here's a quid for you"

Actually, that's just reminded me about something. We order from a local takeaway via Just Eat, pay for the order online (including a surcharge for delivery) but we never tip the driver.

Last time we ordered we got a phone call saying we were just outside the delivery area and it would be an extra pound for delivery, and did we want to continue with the order or cancel it.

Now for the sake of a quid I continued, but it did strike me as slightly odd at the time that tectonic plates could move so much in the space of two months. Having read the OP's post I'm now thinking it was a ruse to get me to tip the driver, but still.

I've had a few recently that have knocked on my door and said "takeaway for number 98". To which I say "that's next door". Then they look confused, so I say again "next door. This is number 99", and get a "oh, sorry mate". It's not like my door doesn't clearly say 99 on it. Grrrr .

Normally they're not given much change to lessen the temptation to just take the money and run

If they only have £10 in change, it's not difficult in an evening to find it difficult

Then if they bring their own money, it's too easy for them to be accused of theft

It's funny you should post this, because I had the exact opposite yesterday. He gave me my change and seemed to move 30ft in the time it took me to pick up a couple of quid out of it. I called him back and he seemed confused and reluctant to take it!

I'd be lying if I said I tip often..

Next time I'm going to take the food and give him a bag of change 10p short, and leave him waiting as I hunt for some coppers. See how he likes it

Logic would dictate if the order is £13.65 you would have a fiver and £1.45 in change, its not difficult to work out what the change will be in advance

I order on justeat and mostly theres a delivery charge. Mrs then still gives the guy £2.... :-(
