I was generalising. But you are perfectly correct. In practice women are different from men and they are treated differently. In law however they are recognised mostly as equal and more importantly if they bring a case they are fully supported by the legal system and by society in general. If they are from ethnic minorities however living in religiously determined enclaves they are far less likely to resort to the legal system for help.
