                Thanks for that. Though I'm not sure how the insurance would know that my friend knocked his wall down - could just say its always been like that.

                  If the works caused structural damage a decent building surveyor could tell, also the deeds / plans would show there was a wall there, the other houses in the area may be of the same layout & have the wall, estate agent records from the sale (depending on age)
