Yeah, nice. So I'd have to train with one bell to achieve the weight I need, but that's no problem.
Well, that depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you are looking to gain muscle, one bell with one arm at a time for three sets (10 reps per set) will be good. If however you are looking to tone your muscle and burn fat around it, I agree, you need two dumbells and alternate between hands every rep!

Get a chinup bar for the door for chin ups and use the corner of the work surfaces in the kitchen for dips? Overall you can give youself tremendous workouts with just your body weight.
I got hold of large plastic bottles. I think they are used for storing petrol or something. Which I fill with water and train with. A sausage bag from the from the army suplus store, some sand from B&Q, some sandwich bags and you have a sandbag which is a fantastic resource. When you get stronger buy more sand!
I paid a mate £15 to make me a wooden sleigh I put weights in and drag around etc. That works pretty well too.
