Now that my baby has arrived and my family is providing me with the support I need to look after her, I concentrate on getting a new contract to enable me to start meeting my repayments and pay off my arrears.
I'd be interested to know what her chances are of finding work? Her CV can't look very good now!

I'd say you're more of a pain in the anus, really, old boy.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Not to mention her little outburst about taking her last client to a tribunal for terminating her contract early. (MarillionFan would be at tribunals all the time if it were that simple... )
She's clearly not cut out for contracting, and if the agencies find out who she is, they won't touch her with a tulipty stick.

          silly silly beggar.

What have CV's got to do with the reality. When you consider the depths my career has dredged you would be amazed how my CV shines out like a band of gold, when all about is in darkness.

If you have money of that kind of level HMG WILL know about it. ESPECIALLY if you have made it legally - you told them about it when you paid tax. They can and WILL demand from you bank your personal account data and they WILL want to steal that much money from you.

So what? If its legal (like mine) then you've got nothing to worry about.

From what I can see IR can't handle payments of child credits, nevermind smart datamining system that will look at transactions, high balances etc: they will dig it only during investigation of someone specific.

Ok, they're crap. You're right. They don't go for the soft target of the small business. Don't worry about it, it'll never happen to you.

I, think I will join you instead of keep following my accountant's advice and not make myself stick out like a sore thumb to the individual tax inspector who looks at my accounts every year and has harsh government targets to meet in terms of increased revenue.

After all, I pay him a lot to give me this advice because he is highly qualified in accountancy and tax law when I can get such excellent advice from you for nothing. So you will save me money there too.

Just to ease the little doubt I have could you just tell me what your qualifications and experience are in these matters, after all I will be risking my own and my family's financial future on your advice.

Look, I don't want to argue about that - I had plenty (certainly top 5% of the UK bank account) of cash in my bank account and will continue to have that much. So far so good - IR does not care and if it did then I can prove easily that the money all legit. I am certainly not going to keep it in cash under matress and even more certainly I won't spend it just to keep away from theoretical possibility of IR being interested.

I am not giving any advice - everyone is responsible for their own life, so bog off.

I don't follow your reasoning here, bfg. Assuming I earn a large amount, put it through PAYE/CT/divi's etc ie. pay the required tax on it, and put it in a bank account or deposit account then it's mine to do with as I will - spend it on a Ferrari, earn interest on it, give it away etc. Then how exactly (IR35 apart) are HMRC going to get more of it than they are legally allowed ?

I take it you have been stung in the past, so what exactly has been your experience. Enlighten us.

HMRC do not care if the money is legitimate.
They do not care that you have paid all taxes due.
They do not care that you have worked hard for it.
They do not care that you are a fine, upstanding contributing member of society.
They do not care that it is your money, not theirs.

THEY JUST WANT TO TAKE IT FROM YOU. They will use all means fair or foul to get their hands on it. Unless insured you will find it very difficult to fight them as they will have frozen all your assets, including all that cash.

Even if you win they will have had the use of your money for years while you fight them.

It happened to a colleague, it took over 3 years to prove he didn't owe them £58,000, magically the exact same figure he had saved in a building society to buy a property in the med. He was notified to HMG under the money laundering regulations when he paid in £2000 to top it off just prior to going out later that year to buy. This information was passed to HMRC who swooped on him like the flock of stinking vultures they are. When that failed the government then had another try under the proceeds of crime act, that one only took a few weeks to sort out as all his finances were fully documented.

He never did get that place in the med, nearly got a nervous breakdown though.
