This not strictly true - first you need to get actual county court judgement against you, but if you pay within 28-30 days, then no CCJ will be on your case. But if you fail to pay within that period, then CCJ will remain even if you pay it all off (ie bailiffs make you) it will still remain on your record, albeit with "paid" status. This is what I did to one bint who tried to rip me off for wrongly alleged damages in rented place few years ago and sued me, she now got nice CCJ from my counter suit, just remembering that now makes me feel very good

It should be purged after 6 years as the credit reference companies don't keep records for more than 6 years. It took 6 years for all my student defaults to be cleared from my record..

All sorted now though but I must admit I never got as far as CCJ's so my understanding may be slightly out there. However knowing the problems I had with defaults (that were fully paid back) I'd hate to see the credit problems somebody with CCJ's would have...

If you don't like you bank you can always go and use another one. I think you'll find that bank charges are quite reasonable one you have £500,000 to invest. You'll never pay bank charges again they are reserved for the poor common people who don't earn much
