Reminded me of an anarchist species in Star Trek and did a Google. Star Trekkies are all a bunch of anarchists apparently.

Apparently a statist is just about anyone who's not an anarcho-capitalist. WTF is an anarcho-capitalist?

I suspect that this is going to turn into another **** awful Ayn Rand thread: America's new culture war: Free enterprise vs. government control

"Statism" has become a cult-word, used most frequently by people who are in the Ayn Rand cult.

Ancap is just a word to describe anarchists that favour capitalism, as opposed to the version of the word hijacked by anarchists that don't believe in private ownership.

I.e. Anarchist should be enough - no rulers (not no rules!) - but because anarchism has come to also mean no private ownership (a bit of a contradiction in my mind) it's become necessary to invent the term anarcho-capitalist.

I prefer the word voluntarist, as it means what it says on the tin with no extra connotations.

A big clue to spotting what is likely to be bulltulip is when people find it necessary to poison the well in such a fashion.

I hope they don't also believe that money should be abolished a la StarTrek!

For what it's worth - Ayn Rand despised anarchists (including anarcho-capitalists).

                  Current dictionary entry for Altruism:

                  Dictionary dot reference dot com:

unselfishly concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others (opposed to egoistic ).
                  The free dictionary:

Unselfish concern for the welfare of others; selflessness.
Sounds exactly like Rand describes it.

Do not confuse altruism with kindness, good will or respect for the rights of others. These are not primaries, but consequences, which, in fact, altruism makes impossible. The irreducible primary of altruism, the basic absolute, is self-sacrifice
                  -- Ayn Rand

Except one can be altruisic without self-sacrifice.

All these minority groups are cults, I was reading the other day about the SSP branding Socialist Worker a cult, get indoctrinated, sell more papers.

Nobody can seriously suggest there cannot be a form of government, if you do and you promote that view you should be getting treatment.
