Ah well Stockbridge is nice, particularly the Botanic gardens for picking up the ladies. I'm Marchmont as you know. This new parking zone here is A+ for a laugh. No more commuters outside my door waiting for a space.

Erm.. Alexei, Rudel is famous indeed, but there is a slight problem....

He flew aircraft. Usually Stukas. Enjoyed great success with 37mm canon.

Wittman commanded tanks. He fought tank to tank.

Rudel was a superb ground attack pilot... but we we were talking about tank commanders.... if you want to stray into the subject of air aces, well, yes, again, the top guys are German. Over 350 kills as the record.

Wittman was on the West front - this not a big deal to shoot Shermans from Tiger, but Otto Carius was actually on the Ost front - now that is no small fish because ferocity of war there is not something that happened again: T-34 tankers loved to hit enemy tanks in hope to blow them both up, not for the light hearted.

No Alexei... Wittman faught on many fronts... most of his tank 'kills' were on the Eastern..

He is remembered for his effectiveness on the Western Front - as he was eventually kiled there, having basically wiped out a British tank regiment with three Tiger tanks under his command. However, he fought at Kursk - then the largest tank battle in history, and many others on the Eastern Front.

                    Oi!
Talk not about death, but life. It's not cool to count "kills" FFS. If it's necessary then so be it, but to do so when you have no threat and the potential of life is not cool
                    Hard Brexit now!

Well, a Jagdtiger is a defensive weapon... sit in a protected place and simply kill tanks 2 km away. Wittman is widely regarded as the most adept soldier in terms of tank warfare - both in command of an individual tank, and in command of a formation as well, which is a different 'talent' indeed... he went close - took the offensive.... and fought tank to tank....

He and his crew were the most successful. I should admit now that I wrote a paper for my history course at uni, regarding the Grossdeutschland unit during it's metamorphosis, and spent many hours in the library of the Imperial War Museum and met with with James Lucas the author, on several occassions - Wittman was but one of our topics of conversation.
