Think morons run all government sites. Had major problem doing my Cos House accounts a few days ago, all filled in, no errors, all necessary notes done but there was no submit or continue button. Support said go to "add note" and click cancel. That got a validate and continue button which immediately disappeared when I clicked it leaving me back at square one.

You can still renew in the post office and also over the phone 24/7 now.
I'll be setting up an annual direct debit when mine expires at the end of the year and then I can forget about having to renew it again.

Why leave it till after the last minute to provide the service that you mandated years ago and had the same amount of time to prepare for? Yeah I know, because they can. They are still morons. I wonder who it was this time? Crapita?Comment

This does mean of course that the DVLA can potentially get up to one months tax for the same vehicle twice if it was sold on the first day of the month.
I have no idea why - now that the paper discs are obsolete - car tax still has to run on calendar months and can't just be taxed from the date you buy/renew it. Especially with direct debit available as a payment method.
You can pay monthly by DD now but it will cost more than paying for it annually.Comment

In other words, it will be associated with the owner rather than the car.
It might be a genuine attempt to simplify things, but I suspect it is a stalking horse for other planned road chargesWork in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

When you sell/trade-in your car you should fill in a claim form for any unused tax. All cars have to be taxed by the new owner.Comment

You don't need to claim for unused tax anymore, it will be done automatically when DVLA receive notification that you're no longer the owner.Comment

So, you can set up an annual DD which will change amounts depending on the rating of your car? i.e. if you change from a gas guzzler to a 1.1 eco car you don't have to do anything, the DD will change automatically?Comment

I renewed the tax on my car ready for October using the "beta" website. No problem at all - also no tax disk will be issued.
The only problem I can see is that the car is sat outside the house with a Sept 14 tax disk on it...Comment
