You see a certain pattern in CUK thinking which reflects attitudes in the wider world.

Those of a leftist disposition often have an idealistic, if rather detached, concern for humanity in general but little sympathy for individuals. Those on the right have little time for the wider world and lack sympathy for humans they do not know or connect with but have rather more natural human empathy towards those they do and a better understanding of human nature with all its defects and shortcomings.

No surprise that such lack of sympathy for two parents who suffered such a loss as a result of what was, in retrospect, a stupid error should come from CUK's lefties while DA and other righties are much more sympathetic.

Go with the instincts nature has given us is my view. If we spent less time imposing our idealistic standards on the world at large, if we wasted less money in foreign aid when we don't have an iota of control over how it is used and whether it does any good and spent more time simply helping those around us the world would be a far better place.

Yes, I think I fit into that category. I love the people with whom I connect and the kitchen table at Gittins Towers is always abuzz with people just popping in for a quick cuppa and a chat.

But the the wider world and any notion of being part of some "collective" I could do without.

Take the other day; I was having a yomp along the coast path near Budleigh Salterton. I'd been puffing my way up some pretty demanding hills when I chanced upon a little shelter at the top of one of these hills replete with a very inviting looking bench. So, I decided to take a rest and tuck into the packed lunch I had in my day pack whilst enjoying the tranquility.

No sooner had I taken my first bite than a group of 5 suddenly appeared and asked if I'd mind budging up so that they could take a seat too. To be honest, I could quite happily have thrown them over the cliff but, me being me, I stoically acquiesced and tried to enjoy the rest of my sandwiches whilst lamenting a ruined moment by the arrival of these damned people.

OMG - they allow idiots to post on Contractor UK.

BTW - contractor UK, you need to think about pulling this thread - or at least getting a legal type to look at it.

            Who owns this obvious sockie?

Oh and legal implications because not all on here think that leaving little children unsupervised is sensible and amounts to neglect? Don't be absurd.

I'm in shock that this thread is still live to be honest.

Shut the **** up. Adults are discussing something, would you mind going and playing with your toys ?

+1. There are no demanding hills in Budleigh Salterton unless you are half dead with asthma.

Explain this please and then explain to everyone precisely how you would have dealt with the situation. Or should they have simply quietly gone away and dealt with the loss of their child in a manner so as not to offend people like you?

Did I state that my walking activities were confined exclusively to Budleigh Salterton?

I'd actually followed the coast path all the way from Branscombe that day so I can assure you that I'd had more than my fair share of demanding hills by the time I got to BS.

Once again you've got the wrong end of the stick and like a typical rightie try to twist words, where did I say it offended me?
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
