Fairy nuff. And when was the boiler last serviced?

Try to avoid the Kenneth Williams bit this time

Could be myriad thing then. Did you manage to see if it was the igniter just going nuts? If it is, and the boiler is lit and staying lit then just an annoyance until Monday morning. If the boiler keeps going out then I'd stop using it until Monday morning.

Then I'd arrange to have it serviced Monday morning.

Stays lit. Seem to have plenty of hot water, so not a biggie. Got immersion as backup if required.

If it's clicking (AKA ratcheting) then it's not igniting straight away.

            It's that's a new noise, get a man in.

Mine did it for seven years, got slowly worse, then it died - so be quick about it :-)

Our old boiler sounded like eurofighter taking off.

The water here is very hard and it was the limescale inside the boiler.

There is an outside chance that when the pump was changed the speed was set too low. This would cause the water to not "get away" from the boiler quick enough, causing a thermal cut out. This can sometimes cause the ratcheting noise you mention as it cuts out and in very fast. It would remain lit in this case.

You can try increasing the speed of the pump a smidge to see if it stops the noise. Of course this would then mean all your rads would need to be rebalanced, which you can do yourself and is quite fun

Edit : This could wait a bit as you're not using the rads currently (I hope)

Cheers - think it was set to 2 (on a scale of 1-3). Heating's off at the mo.

                    Settings? Posh pump!

OK whack it up to 3, see if it clears the noise. If not whack it back to 2. Simples
