    Claiming expenses from clients

Spoke to agent today who wondered why I hadnt been claiming expenses for going to other office for client.

Base is A which is 10 miles from home, other office B is 13 miles from home in other direction. Agent reckons I should claim off client for 20 miles trip (slightly different route) from office A (which is base) to B (even though I go straight to B).

To be honest, I'm not going to bother. My thinking is its 3 miles more so what and by claiming 40 miles off client its taking the piss a bit when in effect its 6 miles further for me total. Also, I like office B theres less traffic that way too.

If I remember even in permie days, surely no-one is going to pay 20 miles from office A when its just a 3 mile further trip?

Can imagine how it looks to client when they see a contractor sticking in expense claims for 40 x £0.45 = £9 when they find out its just 3 miles further for them. Look like a penny pincher....

Yeah not worth it, you would be taking the p!ss if you did . My question would be why does the pimp care whether you claim or not, its not as if any of it ends up in his pocket!

Probably thinks it's better than you posting crap from the JSA queue.

Tell you what - since everyone is so concerned about my JSA claiming I'll change my sig so everyone knows whether I'm in a gig or screwing the state. OK?

I seriously do not understand why everyone gets so wound about it. If you're bothered, take a few hours off and wander down to your nearest jobcentre and have a shout at some of the losers hanging around outside smoking and drinking cider.....

Haha nice one!, To be honest I don't see why claiming JSA (or other benefits) should be an issue, you've paid into the tax system so why not benefit from it if you need it. I am sure that most people on here (me included) do all they can to avoid going into the 40% tax band (especially now that child benefit is starts to be clawed back when you do) so its a bit hypocritical IMO...

Because one of them will be you?

It's been a loooooooooooong time since I claimed mileage expenses, but I recall the rule in use was that you were allowed (by the Inland Revenue) to claim the lessor of the journey from home to B and from A to B. So that's 13 miles.

Don't bother claiming from the client, but do claim it from your company - if you're obsessive enough to claw back every possible penny of tax.

From a personal perspective, you could claim the 13 miles. From a business perspective, your business could charge whatever you have agreed with the client.

Why not charge your client what you are entitled to charge them? The only reason I don't charge my client the mileage expenses is because I don't know what their rates are and can't be bothered to find out - if someone had said "it's 10p a mile" or whatever, then I'd be putting that on my invoice with the rest of the expenses.

Yeh well fair enough - whereever I go I claim my mileage - goes without saying.

I just thought claiming 13miles when I'd drive 10 anyway in the other direction was taking the piss a bit.
