There's your problem. 450/day in Central London is peanuts ...and we know what you get when paying peanuts!Originally posted by silverlight1 View PostI was recently looking for Oracle development resources to work on a large project in Central London...
Getting people with the right skills / attitude even in contract market is still tough and we were offering reasonable rates £450 and flexible working hours..Comment

concur
Completely agree with this. On my last contract AND my current one, they're really struggling for good software engineers/developers, esp C++. My old boss spent entire days interviewing, and then onto this new contract, they're relying so much on referrals to filter the sub-standards.Originally posted by SpontaneousOrder View PostMy current clientCo finds it incredibly difficult to hire. Possibly why I'm looking at a 6 month boom in the next couple of days.
I can hear the guys on the phone interviewing all day and evidently 99.9% of candidates (*edited out - forgot which board this was*) aren't very good (there are hardly ever any interviews).
100 applications? Sure. >5% competent candidates? No.The idiots are winningComment

From an Agents perspective, I would definitely agree.
As an example, we have advertised for a role, City of London, and have had 343 (and counting) applicants since last Friday. There has been 6 suitable candidates apply.
I think (part of) the reason for this (and it has got much worse over the past 6 months) is that those claiming Tax Credits/Benefits are having to prove to the Job Centre that they are actively applying for positions...
We have certainly seen an increase in unsuitable applicants - which only makes it harder to find the GOOD applicants for the jobs...Comment

Really? Don't think too many contractors are claiming dole money while simultaneously applying for £600 a day IB roles!! The only time I signed on was for 2 weeks after leaving uni many moons ago before I landed my first job in IT, granted I've only ever been benched for 2 weeks since contracting.Originally posted by Hireonomy View PostFrom an Agents perspective, I would definitely agree.

Yes, probably 98% of the applicants have right to work in the UK.Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyInteresting response, so you are saying all/most 343 applications have the right to work in the UK and UK addresses?
BUT.... whether they're suitable for the job is a completely different matter.Comment

By "those" I meant those who are currently unemployed and NOT a Contractor applying for their next assignment, but simply applying for a job... to keep receiving said benefits.Comment
