    Wyse thin client with citrix

    Hi,

I used wyse terminals in the past for SKY but I wont be setting up on the server side I'll just be put in the config that points them to the server cos its a bank and they'll have a guy to do the Citrix stuff. Anyone confirm my thoughts on this?

    Regards,

    Keith

You'll need to tell us your thoughts first.

The problem with Citrix is cost, forcing a lot of people to do it on the cheap. A properly scaled and designed implementation will destroy near enough any other variety of remote desktop / hosted apps solution. Only VMWare is coming close, really.

I don't blame anyone for hating it, though - there is some horrendous work out there and some previous versions left a lot to be desired. It's not something you can just next next next your way through, but it doesn't stop people having a go sadly.

You're not beating a nice HP WES device for good functionality and user experience either, IMHO.

For me Sun Ray with Sun's VDI was close, Unix based, the weak link being of course, Windows which despite it's repackaging to 2014 or whatever is the latest, is still OS/2 - Win NT with knobs on, which was never designed to be core multi-user. Which I find hard to believe actually, coming from Dave Culter's VMS - VMS one letter up - WNT, like Kubrick's HAL being IBM one letter down...

          PAGEFILE.SYS still on both tho!

Can't argue with that, though the modern versions are vastly superior. I'm all about proper VDI now, for that reason - terminal services will take you so far, but you're right, it always feels like a hack.
