How on earth did we get in to an argument about a valid question on an internet forum?

    Doesn't sound rude does it?

    The Cambridge dictionary says

used when you are extremely surprised, confused, or angry about something:
How on earth did this happen?
Why on earth didn't you tell me before?
Bearing in mind only 1 in three of those definitions is anger then I think there is a case of bed wetting going on as well.

And just to keep it on an equal par here is the definition of a bedwetter. Sound familiar?

    bedwetter
The name applied to a poster on an internet forum who gets upset by other posters and throws their toys out their pram, asking for posters to apologise, be banned, sending personal messages and on the whole pissing their pants and bed.
    1) Suityou01 is a bedwetter
    2) You bedwetter
    3) This posters licks the chutney spoon and wets the bed.
    4) This bedwetter is a benger

Have to agree with the OP on this, it is pretty rude, and the guy clearly did not read the OP's bit about a lean and troubled year, and just jumped straight to assuming he could not manage his money.

That being said, welcome to the internet OP.

Now you may not read it that way but I did and so did the OP. If you cant get to adult life without asking a question in a more polite way then I would be surprised. Good on him for having the balls to stand up for himself.

Anyway this isn't general so not going to continue with this as anything I say isn't going to convince you otherwise.
Sorry; you're wrong. "how on/in earth/hell did you let this happen" is something a professional might well say to another, not in rudeness but exasperation/surprise.

Fragile contractors aren't cut out for it perhaps.

I have to say, I am a little disappointed nobody has mentioned me in the whole of this thread. (cough NLUK).

Not sure why? Once in 10 years is pretty good going and shows a professional approach to his business...

            How was that?

Real life and internet forums are worlds appart BTW. Can't really use that as a comparion.

Anyway to the OP: reticent as you may be to "break your word" it is totally understandable for such a big difference. People do it all the time and that's why notice periods exist.

Looking for a substitution is worth considering but in real life you're probably going to struggle unless you actually know someone, rather than bunging an ad on Jobserve and telling your client "this guy's taking over" because they could just ask the agent to do that.

                    Why not?

Aren't we talking about real life issues? this is a page called "Business / Contracts" on a forum for contractors. I asked a straightforward question and - as per every other forum - received a few decent replies in amongst a load of inconsequential noise and childish name-calling based on pure assumption.

I'm not being fragile, nor am I looking for sympathy and being a "newbie" to this forum doesn't mean I was born yesterday or am some wet-behind-the-ears kid on his first day.

I registered here for guidance from fellow professionals, if I wanted to get in a slanging match, flame-war or willy-measuring contest over who can give the best insult, I could find a million places to kick off (including several on this forum).

To those who bothered to give a serious response, thank you very much - you've given me a lot to think about.

                      How was that?

That's besides the point - you had a perfectly reasonable and relevant chance to rinse even more out of a joke that has gone so dry it would suck the moisture out of any living thing....
