    Recruiters on private numbers

Why do recruiters that call from private numbers lie so much?

"Oh your CV is so good for this role. I'm going to send it to the client straight away. It's so good that I'm going to put you forward on the maximum rate offered, is this OK? I'll send you over the job spec now, nice talking to you"... click.

    No email comes :-(

Is this a test or something? What am I doing wrong?

in hindsight maybe he did mistake my enthusiasm for desperation.

I don't answer private numbers - if there is a role they leave a voice message or send me an email.

However even if they don't call from a private number lots of them are full of tulip.

Most agents that call me use a withheld number. It's when it's not withheld and international that you need to worry.

Ok so I tracked down his profile on linkedin (as his full name was on the job ad) and sent him a follow up email, to which he replied that he will contact me before the end of the day. We will see lol.

Forget it and move on is the best option.

yeah sorry forgot to mention that it wasn't a cold call but a call in response to a job ad that I applied for. I don't like posting a public CV on websites as most of the calls I get are a waste of time.

like +20 3 608 **** ostensibly from London. Called me 4 times. Could not understand a word.
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

Just part of dealing with agents. Nothing new here. If you are going to get upset everytime an agent doesn't get back to you or appears to be full of it you are going to have a miserable time contracting.

Suck it up and just get on with looking for a gig.

On related subject: do you entertain newbie agents from established agencies who are ostensibly handing good contracts?
