    As your PM

I would not renew you if you did not work the hours required. (helmet on)

      No need for a helmet.

I've seen contractors not renewed for the same reason.

However if permies have to work that long the organisation has problems.

As the PM I'd hold you responsible for mismanaging the project.

          Lol.
Are these hours agreed in the contract? Are they paid?

Permies "having" to work stupid hours or career progressions and/or bonus is one of the main reasons I started contracting

Since there isn't any way you can control this, then I wouldn't worry about it being an IR35 pointer.
Would this apply to situations e.g. where the client wants operational support between business hours (e.g. if you work in an SME capacity) or where the nature of the work (e.g. customer contact) may necessitate it?

No, I was just saying that it is sometimes how the corporate world justifies asking the extra mile for nothing in permie contracts of employment when the pressure is on

Exactly - and one of the reasons I left permiedom

That makes a mockery of the whole idea of being a contractor and having to accept work offered? If they wanted someone to do weekends as a long term solution then they should surely specifically look someone to work 5days, 2 of which are weekends?

To say you wouldn't renew because your contractor refused to work a 6 or 7 day week on a long term basis says a lot about you.

Stick to what your contract says, IMO.

If you want to give away your free time, well that's up to you (putting aside the IR35 risk).

You're running a business though, not a charity.

If you're the type of person who expects something for nothing, you're not the type of client i'm looking for.
