I know a lot of you will say its part of the game but I still find it extremely discourteous. Appreciate that agents just aint got the time to phone everyone who sends in their CV but if I have an interview through them, I don't think its too much to expect a quick 30 sec call a few days later to say yay or nay.
But it rarely happens and agents will just not even bother to speak to you even if you make the effort to phone them. Some do I must admit but a lot just can't even be bothered.
Maybe I'm imagining a perfect world but its professional courtesy surely.
Also, maybe that's the way the market is these days but, if I see a role come up in the future and its advertised by two agencies, you can bet I won't be picking the one who I know won't phone me back. Just don't see how this makes business sense for them not spending 30 secs on a call to keep you happy rather than piss you off for any future work that might come in.
If you are being kept in the dark, chances are there is a "better" candidate that they want to interview, and just in case that guy turns the gig down, they want you as back-up.
Sorry!
I agree it is discourteous, and I also believe a definitive answer helps us all move on, but sometimes the client just doesn't give feedback.
Totally agree keeping good contractors sweet is a good thing, and I, when recruiting, bear that in mind, as someone who has seen this game from both sides.
Clients are doing the fannying around, the agents are just handed the tulip to pass on.
There are times I would love to kick the clients in the head to give a decision, but they pay my bills!
Hope it works out soon for you.Comment

I'm down in London and the market is quite buoyant, a surprise for this time of year in my eyes.

FFS. Its getting worse.
Twice now in two weeks have I had phone interviews arranged and waited and waited. Last time, it took until the next day to find out what was happening and eventually the call took place but no apology at all.
Supposed to have another one - different client - at 3pm. No sign of. Best thing was 3pm was REALLY awkward for me but client couldn't do 4pm so I've put myself out sitting here and its nearly 4pm anyway.
Bloody rude if you ask me. REALLY REALLY REALLY pissed me off that people don't have a common decency these days.Last edited by psychocandy; 25 November 2013, 15:49.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment
