They will just push people's rates down even more than usual to pocket more. You are very defensive of these agencies, anything to declare? Third time of asking. -

What do you think the solution is then. Moan about it or find your own roles?Originally posted by masonryan View PostThey will just push people's rates down even more than usual to pocket more. There are multiple threads here about agent posting fake jobs and fishing for contacts. A typical sign is when they ask for two references upfront. Yes, it is illegal but how enforceable is it? If one had to question the legality of the corporate world in itself...<Insert idea here> will never be adopted because the politicians are in the pockets of the banks!Comment

I think it's more common to see "blended" job ads rather than outright fake ones. There's usually at least a grain of truth linking it back to one (or likely several) actual jobs.Comment

What they are more likely to do is:Originally posted by Bill Lumbergh View PostI think it's more common to see "blended" job ads rather than outright fake ones. There's usually at least a grain of truth linking it back to one (or likely several) actual jobs.
1. Leave knowingly expired job ads on the boards
2. Put on ads for a job that they know will go in the next hour or so
Both illegal but can be put down as "accidents"."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

Agents will get as much money as they can, obviously they will.Originally posted by masonryan View PostThey will just push people's rates down even more than usual to pocket more. You are very defensive of these agencies, anything to declare? Third time of asking.
If they could grind us down to nothing and become millionaires then they would. Why wouldn't they?
However, if agency 1 tried that then agency 2 would get all of the potential contractors by offering more money and agency 1 would go out of business.
If all of the agencies made a co-ordinated attempt (which would never happen as they are very competitive, and I mean VERY) then most of us would just go back to being permies as contracting would not exist anymore. Hence all agencies would go out of business.
Therefore agencies will push your rate down as much as they can (obviously) and you push your rate up. Getting a good rate is part of the skillset of a contractor. The agency does not care, the client does not care - it is all on you.Comment

Great question. If you read NLUKs interminable stream of put downs/posts then you will very quickly notice that s/he never ever posts about the contracts s/he is in or clients or agencies or in fact any of the normal things that a contractor would be interested in.Originally posted by masonryan View PostYou do seem to defend agents a lot, got anything to declare?
Same applies to quite a few people here, Blasterbates for instance, is forever posting that people working abroad should do so through unbrellas. I've been told s/he doesn't work for one but details are very slight regarding what s/he does actually do. And the "aroma" of agency rat round here really is overwhelming sometimes...

You post a lot of dumb things but this is king of the pile. I don't splash my business out on a public free forums but I have used many examples from my past. I mentioned the fact we canned a contract role after getting CV's in a response to one of the OP's mindless posts only yesterday.Originally posted by Boo View PostIf you read NLUKs interminable stream of put downs/posts then you will very quickly notice that s/he never ever posts about the contracts s/he is in or clients or agencies or in fact any of the normal things that a contractor would be interested in.

I don't post anything that contractors would be interested in? WTF? I don't even know how to respond to this utter tripe.
Maybe take the same advice as the other poster and understand what you are talking about before you hit the keyboard. Idiot.
People have experience and opinions that counter that of the poster. Isn't that what this board is about. Just because you have a better idea of how something works than the misguided OP makes you an agent rat is just ludicrous.Last edited by northernladuk; 17 October 2013, 14:28.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!
