2 weeks in all good, they have specific hays/client website which shows payroll/umbrella or LTD company info, all the links say non employee's on them.

they seem quite hot on differentiating the employees from the temps (might just be this client though), origional agent called me this morning just to check if i had seen my first invoice, (self billing) which i had not but he said if i did not get one by Tuesday to call him , Cannot say fairer than that.

I have contracted through Hays directly, twice. I have also contracted indirectly through them twice more, my present contract included. They were fine, paid me on time and when asked for my references before issuing a written contract, were told that this would be forthcoming on signature.

      No problems.
I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).

I'm aware of agency tricks and references and trying to poach for business. Agent reassured me that he will not do this. I've been in-touch with my 2 refs and have told them that the agent should not be asking about new business! We will see what happens on that front...

Anyway, i've told agent that there is no way i'm starting this contract without the paperwork checked and signed. Hopefully he's going to get his arse in gear.
Which is why I started my gig without the contract (having seen a draft copy before i went onsite). Hence I was able to start work rather than wait for their ticked boxes :-)
"Hope your doing fine". My favourite opening line in emails from certain agencies! Not only the fact they can't spell, but who actually says that?

I've also been shown draft copies. Pretty poor practice by Hays if they do this often.

Looks like my start date may be delayed then

I have worked through them, I thought they were pretty useless to be honest, messed a few things up which were not that important in the grand scheme of things really as it was a short term gig

Jeez. Glad I've seen this thread. (Thanks NLUK for the search link).

EXACTLY what they're doing to me now.

              - Trying to get me to accept contract before seeing it on the basis of a sort of schedule in an email.
              - Telling me I cant see draft because system needs all the forms first.
              - Telling me they need two references first.
              - Telling me client is going to back out if I don't hand in notice today and sign contract.

I did say I'd hand in notice when I'd seen contract and then send contract for review but I've got a nasty feeling that might be a bad idea and its going to be a car crash IR35-wise and they're not going to be up for changing it.

Cheeky twat of an agent even tried to tell me how many years he'd been doing it this way and that I was being awkward and needed to learn how contracting worked. Think he must have learnt all his bulltulip lines in his last call centre job. Nobhead.

It's bad luck. Hays were absolutely fine with me.

Could just be luck that. If I was PC looking at all this I would tell the agent I didn't want the role any more.

They made a preemptive offer to me a few years back - the real offer was made 10 days later, or so the hiring manager told me. And the actual length of the contract was 7 weeks, not 6 months as initially conveyed by H. On the plus side, they had reasonable contractor care and paid OK.
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

                      This ^^

Worked through them loads of times. Contract reviews came back 'borderline defendable' according to KC. Payment was always on time.

Me and two other blokes I know ended up in IR35 cases (via insured representation) including time spent on these Hays contracts. We all had our cases dropped (eventually) by HMRC.
