Same old with Hays. They just dont get it at all.

I had the argument with them - they refused to issue the contract. I refused to say I was going to accept it until I saw it. They accused me of being unprofessional because every other contractor 'just gets on with it and doesnt let paperwork get in the way of doing the job'.

I won in the end. But they kept going on about how I was onboard working for them at their client. Irritated me a lot.

They do pay on time and the week later which is good though.

When I left I found out the cut they were taking though which made me even more mad. Would I work through them again? Not if I can help it.

No, they don't get it at all... I asked for the contract and they were avoiding the conversation (like they do with everything), later saying "You don't need a contract with company you will be working for, because you have a contract with us".... Their contract is a very vague piece of paper. I can to spend hours (if you add up all calls I made) and ask about vacation days, when my Hays Connect system account will be ready, why Fieldglass account wasn't set up properly on their side etc...

I do know they are not charity and they have to have their cut to continue their business, but I suggest their cut will be about 20% and don't think they deserve such high premium for misleading and not doing their job properly.

Now I asked why other people got offered Hays/umbrella contract and I wasn't... Why would you hide and mislead your potential workers?

Hays tried it with me and I said no. In the end they gave in.

Current gig is government (not through hays) and they were happy with the post office service....

Standard. Hays always struck me as a company who'd rather treat you as a temp work rather than a business that they had to provide a contract for. They are just not interested at all in sorting things out.

Their cut is another thing. To be fair they're good at playing both sides against the other to maximise this.

I'm currently with Hays and I have not been enrolled in any of this, neither have they asked me to be enrolled. BTW I have a contractors contract not a temporary employee one

than you are not working on Hays contract and your employer have to enroll you on their own pension. I think your situation is better as basically Hays found you a job and got their cut. After that your have nothing to do with them

Employees are allowed to opt-out. As the only employee (probably) of one's own company, you can opt out and carry on as usual.

Well, opt-out makes no point at this moment, as Hays contributing 1% to my pension "for free".

However, I'm not sure about self-employment status. I just figured out that most (if not all) contractors in my company working through umbrella companies, while Hays never mentioned that option to me and I'm trying to find explanation why. If I add up all expenses (which are not paid now) it comes to quite a substantioal amount per year I could have saved.

Now, I'm kinda working for Hays (and never saw the contract with my current employer). I am wondering if I can switch to one of umbrella companies now? Any ideas?
