significance of client notice period in case of opt out

Does Client/Agency notice period make sense if I have signed opt out ?
At any time during the contract period, the client may decide they don't need the services of the contractor any more and immediately stop paying the agency. Even though there is X days notice period mentioned in the contract, the agency may say since the client has not paid us we are not going to pay you (as I have opted out), and if you wish you may work for free till end of contract period. So how does the notice period make sense in opt out contracts ?

Perhaps a bit of searching of previous answers is in order: that is an argument that's ben running for at least ten years...

But yes, notice periods - despite other people's views - have nothing to do with availability of work to be done and hence monies to be paid for doing work. It's why people use contractors.
