Can't see this mentioned anywhere else so thought I'd ask if anyone has opinions on what effect the "one year pause" in allowing EU citizens to have 5 year B permits will have on contract/permie rates in Switzerland.

I live in Switzerland and have a B permit. But personally can't see it making much difference to stagnant/declining rates (in CHF terms at least).

Token gesture, only affects Eastern Europeans, and it doesn´t stop them coming on L permits, which you can keep renewing more or less indefinitely on short term working contracts or even with a permanent job. It is questionable as to whether they would then apply this across the board.

The main problems in Switzerland are the banks because of a general crackdown on tax evaders and the Swiss Franc is very high making it generally very expensive to employ people and difficult to compete.

Hi. As I understand it, yesterday they extended the rule blocking Eastern European's from getting the 5 year B, to include the whole EU (including Britain). So it does not just affect Eastern Europeans (though this legislation is only for 1 year, I think it is a "valve" clause in the bilateral agreements with the EU).

I may be misguided on this as I don't read the news in German and rely on other Forums and English news sites, which often aren't as accurate as the original source.

I do agree that it won't do much as a Contractor could just use an "L" permit, I guess it may have a very slight impact on the Permie market as you wouldn't want to give someone a permie job who may just stay for 2 years.
