    How do you find contracts?

I am new to this stuff, how/where/how should one find contracts? I need something local really, I know that is probably fail # 1 for prospective contractor/freelancer but am soft arse who cries for home when away.

Looking on usual sites, jobserve/jobsite/monster, provides the same 2 or 3 gigs over and over again and no matter how much I tell agency staff I am primarily a desktop developer and nearly zero web skills they insist on putting me forward for ASP.NET roles......?

Am wondering if this is all it's cracked up to be.

Also, agile? Why does every gig you read think it is the most agile company in the world when you know they are not?

You could browse the forums a little. You will find a thread discussing linkedin & jobsites which in itself has a link to another thread discussing how to find contracts.

There are also a number of threads currently running discussing, the current state of the market and your favourite way of finding gigs...

There is also a search option which admittedly doesn't work very well so try look at the option in the thread below...

Times are tough and it is the strong and willing that will survive..... and I see no danger here...

There is a post within 5 posts below this thread on exactly the same topic, so if searching is too complicated, just look a little bit further down the page HTH
