Bombed the last two interviews, make room for one more :(

So I was quite happy to have been invited to a couple of interviews, unfortunately it seems quite obvious that I failed miserably in both of them, in retrospect I feel a lot like Spud.
I am pretty sure that I came across a jack of all trades, master of none and they were looking for a specialist.
The truth is, in reality I have spent the last 7 years in that specialty, the only reason I have the other general skills is a safety net, in case the niche becomes obsolete...
In any case, my contract has finished today and the next part of the project may or may not happen.
I will now dip unto my war chest and enjoy a very alcoholic weekend (or two, or three)!

Chin up indeed mate, you'll be OK. It's difficult being knocked back like that, but the road doesn't end here. You could contact the clients again and put across your POV, explain to them that you are a specialist, show them how you would be a great asset. You've got nothing to lose by trying.

Otherwise take some well deserved time out.

Like you I'm also a specialist in a very niche (and unfortunately dying) product; I can imagine how you might be worried about the future and how you might feel being out of contract. I've been fortunate thus far but am preparing to be out of work by the end of the year.... it's scary but I'll plan for my next step after that.

Just make sure you have enough savings, manage your costs, and keep your eye out for the next role. As a specialist you will be fortunate that - even though there is less work out there - there are less people competing for those roles.

Maybe look to amend your CV / Interview style if you think people are looking for a specialist rather than a jack of all.

Which is ironic because half of the stuff I do is using skills I was never interviewed for in the first place. A client thinks they need someone with A,B,C but in fact need someone with A,B,C,D,E,F etc
