I am not sure why you are assuming this is an SC role. There are three pointers away from it... The agent is asking for the references, not the vetting agency. They don't need 10 years. No one will try vet a new person for a one month contract. So I think it is safer to assume this is NOT an SC role, it's just a sockie.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!Comment

Uh, NLUK:
Not totally convinced that it's a sockie.
If it isn't, then if you are going for a security cleared roll, then I could imagine that you'll to provide 10 years of employment history etc when applying for security clearance. I can't remember what they ask for exactly off hand.
However, that's not the same as references and you wouldn't normally be asked until you actually had the roll in the bag.
I'm not saying that I am correct, but was simply trying to imagine a valid scenario for what the OP said.Comment
