Not extended while other contractor has been

I'm fairly new to contracting but in my current role I finish the end of Jan when the Project finishes.

I've just found out today that the other contractor who I work with and started the same time as me has been extended for another 3 months for what is basically a few left over pieces from the Project.

I got told the other person was more suited for what was left to do. I'm finding it hard not to take it personally even though I know it really isn't from what they said. I know its mainly from me worrying that I might be out of work now and knowing they are still here working.

I'm used to other contractors leaving the same time or being the only one, anyone else experienced this and do you not really think about it and just move on?

That's the way it works - don't fuss about it. Take a feather duster to your CV, bang it online at the start of Jan and make sure your phone is charged. New year, new gig, better rate ahoy!

Don't worry about it. It might have just come down to a coin toss.

Just concentrate on your own contracts and blaze ahead in January.

Lots of reasons why they could have chosen him

He could be cheaper than you.
He might be better than you.
        They might like him better.

I've been talking to quite a few pimps, and they all say this is the busiest December they've had for years. Usually the phones go quiet after the beginning of December, but I'm being rung about new roles at least twice a day.

It's a good time to be looking (depending on your area of skill) at least you've got 5 or 6 weeks to line up your new gig.

Don't take it personally, or you'll close the door if the they ever want you back again.

What rot. The client may extend a new contract to whoever they choose. They may or equally, may not, choose you. You are a contractor. Dont whinge.

How dare they!! March into their office tomorrow morning and demand an extension. Even if they don't need you anymore they should at least pay you while the other contractor is working for them - it's only fair after all.
