establishing a software consulting business with colleagues in UK

    Hi

A question in regards to sales and marketing I guess.

I and a few colleagues of mine are looking to establish a software development/implementation business in the UK, so to execute fixed price contracts mostly in Finance and Telecom. Since we don't really know the current market landscape too much and don't have really wide personal networks, I wonder what'd be the opinions about the sales? How best to approach it - can that be done through recruiting companies at all? Or is it a waste of time and we should speak to the clients directly?

    Would really appreciate your opinion..

Not sure I understand your question with regard sales through recruiting agencies.

The usual route is researching your market and then good old-fashioned cold calling.

Cojak, thanks for the reply! Cold calling is one of the ways I certainly consider. I was wondering if there are other efficient ways in your opinion. For example, people recommended the local chamber of commerce, I was wondering if that's really helpful for IT projects.

It could be, it depends on your product and customer profile. I would consider industry and tech conferences and the like, focus on that rather than geographical segmentation.
