What are you going to do with the season ticket if you (for some reason) don't get extended again?

The OP could always get a refund on the unused portion

                WBAS

Sometimes depending on how screwed up the train company service is, it's actually cheaper to renew an annual season ticket if you need it for 5-7 months then get a refund on the unused amount.

Simply because if the service is really screwed up they give season ticket holders a massive discount on renewal of the ticket.

As long as you are clear about why you acted that way and put it in the accounts then I don't see how it's a problem.....

Why not just play it by the book and get a 6 month travel ticket? How much money can you save?

I only bother with 1 month at a time, just in case, you know, I want to leave.

And if the money is that important, just get a higher rate

My understanding was the the railway company refund based on the amount of time you've actually used it, but each of those days is standard day return.

So say you buy a 1 month season ticket from Manchester to Euston (£1200 for arguments sake) and the cost of a Standard Day Return is £200, the season ticket is worthless after 6 days (6x £200 = £1200).
