    Strange Phone Call Today

Was beavering away in the office today and call comes through from the switchboard -

    "Hello - is that Kaiser78 ?"
"Yes - how can I help"
"I have John Smith on the line from ABC Recruitment who would like to speak to you. He says you will know who he is"
"Okay please put him through" (even though John Smith did not ring any bells with me.)

He gets put through and the phone goes dead. John Smith has hung up on me.

Now, I am just curious as to why an agent would take the effort to ring me through the clientco switchboard (and not my mobile or email) and then hang up when out through

Are you on LinkedIn with a role description that implies you have any hiring responsibility? If so, they probably thought you were the hiring manager. And if the agent realised that wasn't the case (maybe because of something the receptionist said), that may be why the line went dead. But, the reason could be anything of course.

My linkedin profile shows current contract PM role so no real clues in relation to hiring. True that there could be any reason why the phone when dead, probably just got cut off. Just my curiosity to see if this is technique being adopted by agents for whatever reason.
