    Brand spanking new

    Hello folks

I'm a software developer in North West England. I have an opportunity to undertake a piece of contract work for a company I used to work for, coming up to a year ago.

The rate looks good enough for me to quit my current permanent role, 4 months in to this, and take some mercenary cash from old employer. Only thing is im totally green in respect of contract work, what a contract looks like, what I need to include/not include; pitfalls to avoid; what i should/shouldnt be doing etc... to keep myself out of the IR35 government cash cow. Any advice, no matter how small you think, appreciated to get me up and running.

    Cheers for reading

    1. Look at the stickies at the top of the Welcome/FAQ forum, particularly the Netiquette one.
    2. Read through the 1st 3 pages of this forum, that will give you an idea about the pitfalls.
    3. Go to the First timers guides on the right and read down the list.
    4. Join the Professional Contractors Group and read their guides.

Mainly, contracting is a mindset, being prepared to sort yourself out without expection of things being handed to you on a plate.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.
