ISEB s/w testing worthwhile?

I am a Notes developer at the moment on a contract (five years experience, PCLP, CLP), but I was side-tracked for a year to work in a testing team which ended about six months ago. This is the direction that I would like to now concentrate on – worried about more outsourcing of development jobs.

The ISEB foundation course will give you a good grounding in the basics, but the key to the next testing contract is experience and what you can sell to the client. If you have the same level as experience as another potential candidate then the ISEB may swing it and show you're a serious contractor.

Personally, I've found Elfriede Dustin's books to be a better source of furthering practical knowledge than the ISEB course, but the course gives more "buzzwords" that are useful in interviews

Oh, and if your development outsourcing company is aggressive enough then they'll eventually start going for outsourcing testing as well, so there's little comfort there I'm afraid!!!

Thanks Meridian, I like the idea of self-study - I am spending nearly three hours a day on a train at the moment so a good way of passing the time!

Outsourcing - just have to have as many balls in the air as possible!

By all accounts it's a walk in the park if you are a experianced tester. I'm coming accross a lot of people who have an ISEB and don't know tulip these days

Yep, my Mrs did the foundation exam without doing the course first (mind she's been in testing for a while). She did do the course for the practioner level stuff.

There's a fair old demand for testers at the moment (at least around Bristol) and the rates can be higher than PMs...
