    Non Existant Roles

Is it just me or is there a real uptick in fictional roles placed by agents lately?

I've spoken with three agencies this week who seem more interested in what I've done recently and where I've been interviewing than actually tell me about the role.

And then I keep replying for interesting sounding roles online and getting pushed towards some tulip permie junk despite being a perfect match for the role.

    What gives?

Just fishing for CV's and 'references'. Just one of the growing issues we have to fight through.

Should be pretty easy to spot in most cases and nothing more than a bit of PITA.

When I see a role from some little known agency, at a rate which seems somewhat above current market rate for the role. I'm suspicious.

Why are all the PSL agencies quoting £x pd but you manage to advertise a role at £x+£125 pd?? Curious

        Hi,
every role that goes onto jobserve cost money. If every agent that was sat on their backside and bored was spunking money up the wall on joke ads just to get a CV they would go bust. What I have seen in the market over the last month is this:

More roles are getting filled through recommendations from mates. Have had two go that way in the last few weeks.
Roles are taking weeks to move not days.
Lack of feedback is a measure of crap agents with too much choice not that jobs don't exist.

A crap CV is less than useless. If you think you should be getting called back for a role and nothing happens then you really need to look at your CV.

I applied for six or more roles three weeks ago I have only just had two interviews confirmed from them this week.
Two got filled from mates and two are just spinning in thin air...

I applied for 3 roles last week nothing came of any of them.

That is good going. I think I could add a 0 to the number you applied for last time I was looking for a role

Or rates suspiciously lower than advertised elsewhere.

There seem to be a lot of micro agencies springing up or at least, lots of agencies I've never heard of before now in the market place.

Does that mean it's getting easier to move from perm to contract (4 weeks notice problem) or am I wishful thinking? Just asking as I am trying to do that at the moment and want to gauge my chances.

Perm to contract isn't going to be easy if your working your notice period. When the offer's made they would expect you to be available pretty much then, certainly not in a months time.

Now would not be a good time to make the leap imho but if you are then good luck to you!

The number of roles someone get isn't related to the notice periods. They are totally different issues. The market could be bloody fabulous but that doesn't mean clients will wait 4 weeks.

You are on a wish and a prayer if you want to dove tail your notice. Best thing is to get some cash, jack it in and then apply or else you are going to be waiting forever for the perfect opportunity. There is nothing saying that role will be there when you turn up on the first day as well so a four week wait is risky at best.
