Agent still awaiting formal extension confirmation with 3 days to go!!

I formally accepted the verbal extension offer with the agent yesterday, and they said that they are still awaiting formal confirmation from ClientCo.

They wait until 2 weeks before contract end to offer it and then no communication with the agent to confirm it.

    Edit
    Question.
If I have formally accepted but the ClientCo has not formally approved by the time that the contract ends, how do I stand contractually if I then decide not to bother and move on somewhere else? I presume I am safe to leave for another client if that is available.

There is usually a last minute hitch - 3 days is plenty of time to sort it out.

Personally I always verbally accept "subject to suitable paperwork".

And I never work without a contract for a few days awaiting extension paperwork - though I know quite a few others who do.

Two weeks - Thats 13 days before my client gets around to it! Completely useless they are. Last extension was sorted out on Xmas eve at about 3pm.

Must admit I dont understand their logic sometimes. Sort it out 3-4 weeks in advance and get my to sign and I dont have chance to look for something else. If something else comes up in the meantime, then tough, its all agreed and signed.

Fanny about and leave it until the last minute, and,

        1. I'm going to start to get twitchy and get on jobserve to look around just in case.
        2. Theres more chance of someone else phoning me with a better offer.

Then again, with current client, sometimes it works to my advantage because I'm sure long term they want to get rid of contractors but are not organised enough to sort anything and just keep extending.

Keep chasing it and keep hassling the agent.

I find it always helps to give the client a nudge, if you have a good working relationship with them.

If the client are keen to keep you on, it often helps to mention you can't legally be on site without the requisite paperwork.

I am, sponsoring manager says the approver is out of the office at the moment!!

See initial post for a further question.

That's how I would interpret it - there is nothing for you to accept (I'd guess that legally the agent does not have the legal capacity to make such a contract with you), so there is nothing to stop you going elsewhere.

My current client have until Friday to try and find some money - there's loads of work but no agreed budget. Another agency rang me today about a local role that I can do, and they can't find anyone who can do it, so that's my bail out clause.
