    Your personal life is not an agents or clients concern at all. If the OP had childcare and emergency childcare in place, that isnt a problem. The only time I see it being an issue is if the parent takes time off.

    I had one agency (notorious for being 's), try to ask me how much I earnt in the past year and how I support my home and if I had claimed benefits (which I havent at all)?

    I responded by firmly telling them it was "non of their god damn business what Ive earnt, if I claim benefits or if I like wearing a gimp mask at the weekends". My personal life is just that, personal.

    Everyone should clarify all gaps if asked, but no-one has the right to your personal relationships and other social information.

            I'm a mum to a 3 yr old...I've always struggled to find clients willing to accept my circumstances....I start early and finish early since I need to pick up My child frm the day care.... Some clients find it sooooo difficult to accommodate my 'finishing at 430' request.....they seem okay with guys starting at 930am though!

              I did read and understand your post. You're the one that fails to understand and posts garbage. I wont post just to earn high fives off morons. Often the truth is ignored or not looked upon favourably. That is your issue in finding the truth difficult to swallow.

              Having a baby is taking a break. You at least need time off to give birth and most women very rarely take only a day or two off throughout the entire process.

              Having a baby is also a choice. Procreating should be considered beforehand including the implications. It isnt a break like an unexpected family illness. It is a concious decision.


              If you take any kind of break for any reason, it doesnt look good on your CV, regardless of the reason. I dont make up the rules and yes, I think it is unfair, but that's life. You obviously havent had many dealings with HR departments or management and fail to appreciate how they work.

                  Why should they have to accommodate it? It was your choice to have a child.



                  How do you feel it is fair and just, for parents to be able to dictate their working hours and time off while the rest of us cant?

                  In many places Ive worked in:
                  - If you're lucky enough to get a good amount of holiday leave, you sometimes have to book it almost a year in advance.
                  - If you need time off for appointments, you need to give over a fortnights worth of notice and make up the hours.

                  Yet in the same workplaces, if parents failed to anticipate childcare and need to dash off, they can and dont have to make up the hours. If they need time off to take as holiday, they dont need to give much notice at all.




                  Anyway please dont misunderstand my tone, I get annoyed at the injustice of it and I dont mean it to sound personal.

                  If only we could swap employers, you could have some of mine that let parents walk all over them and I can have one that lets me come in at 9:30 ...... Ahhhhhhh I'd like a lie in.

                      Well, I'm not a "mum" but find myself in the same situation. I'm an "early-in, early-out" sort of person, and refuse to work beyond 4:30 unless it's really necessary. I motorcycle to work and so like to miss the worst of the traffic. I normally get in work between 7:30-7:45, so my hours are well and truly covered by the time I leave. But still I get the dirty looks at 4:30 each day, by all those who chose to stroll in 2 hours after I did and spend an hour or more at lunch (which I don't.) Just part of the game, I'm afraid.

                      I'm now very firm in raising the working hours issue at the interview, just so there is no arguing later on (not that that didn't stop my previous client arguing about it anyway, from a manager who rarely arrived before 10:30-11:00 a.m.) In these days where clients want to slash rates and pay zilch for overtime, I find I don't give a damn anymore; I'm out at 4:30, and that's that.
