Not renewing

First for me, in the decades I've been contracting, I've never not extended, what's the etiquette? I've told the agency obviously, and the odd bod here at the coal face, but no managers etc.

I'm inclined to let the agent deal with it, after all I'm not an employee and they are managing body WRT to stekCo here so it's not up to me, but wonder whether I should make some sort of announcement? I'm a bit scared of having to get the beers in, having lived in Yorkshire for so long....

What's the considered opinion?

Politely let the agency and your direct manager know you are not renewing (and make sure it's in writing - email is good enough.) Simple. Never struggled with this task in 23 years.

EDIT: And if asked why you are not renewing, just give the standard BS reply of "I have been presented with an opportunity to further my career in a specific direction; this opportunity is too good to pass up at this stage in my career. Really sorry to be leaving, as you guys are a great team and I will be sad to go...etc."

Just had lunch with the guy I work with and I said to him 'When I finish this particularly project in October don't worry about finding anything else for me to do I fancy taking Nov/Dec off and so I really only fancy a bigger project'

'No worries' was the answer, 'there's always work here for you, just let me know when you fancy picking some up again'

I've just binned mine two weeks into a renewal, work was very bitty, nothing to really get my teeth into. Warned the agent I was thinking of doing so, had a short chat with contact at client co to let them know I was going and then sent termination email to agent. Dropped in today for handover, spent the afternoon sat in garden... Probably take the winter off
