    Settle a question for me...

    New contract paying 300 p/d (inside IR35)

The agent says through their 'recommended' umbrella I could recoup roughly 80% of that in take home.

Looking on a popular umbrella company calculator it says I am looking at just over 60% as take home (claiming expenses of £100 a week)

I can't see how there can be such a discrepancy, unless dare I say it the agency is in cahoots and receives some kind of benefit from pushing people into their recommended umbrella friends..

Anyone know what is a more realistic return?

    Thanks

STEP AWAY FROM THE MYTHICAL UMBRELLA COMPANY

If you could take 80% home through an umbrella, without consequence, don't you think every person employed and contracted in the UK would be doing it???

Don't take them at their word on IR35 either. In fact dont believe a word they say about brollies and contract terms.

Get the contract reviewed before you sign it. These guys are very good.

It is inside IR35 so no need to get it reviewed.

How do you know that......oh that's right you get it reviewed. Just because the agent tells you its inside IR35 don't believe them. Just like they told you about an umbrella promising 80% take home.

I think one of us is mixing up "inside" and "outside"

Inside IR35 means you pay PAYE/NI just like any other permie. Outside means you don't. The OP thinks his contract is Inside cos the agent told him it was. We are saying dont listen to them, get it reviewed and if nesscesery get it changed.

B&C will do all the negotiation on contract terms for you if you want, included in the cost of the review.

But why get it reviewed if you behave like it is inside IR35, HMRC are not going to penalise you if you pay full PAYE and NI and if you get paid by a Brolly you are always inside IR35 anyway. Why pay for a review?
